Understanding of the course content and structure is necessary, thus GSI positions are only offered to incoming and current graduate students that taught the course as undergraduates. Qualified students are contacted by the Office of First Year Programs with a link to the application. If you are a qualified student, you will receive an email roughly mid-February.

Job Summary

Graduate Student Instructors (GSIs) for ENGR 110 are assigned to a group of undergraduate instructors that they supervise during the fall semester. They facilitate meetings, review and suggest updates to course materials, hold office hours, prepare weekly course materials, and approve time cards. This is a part-time appointment (50% effort).

Course Description

ENGR 110 is a two credit elective course that helps students explore what engineering is, learn about the opportunities available to them through extra and co-curricular activities, and identify their own interests and goals for their time at Michigan. For more information about ENGR 110, please visit: https://adue.engin.umich.edu/engr110-design-engin-exp/

Responsibilities*

Teach courses, or coordinate, lead, or assist in the instructional process in direct interaction with students in recitation, laboratory, quiz, or problem sessions, or teach during regularly scheduled office hours. Assist instructor in preparing course materials and grading.

Required Qualifications*

To be considered for this position, you must be a University of Michigan graduate student in good standing, taking at least 6 credit hours in the term you are applying for. Both incoming and current graduate students are eligible. Additionally, you must have prior experience as an Instructional Aide for ENGR 110. Applicants that do not have experience as an ENGR 110 IA will not be considered.

Desired Qualifications*

Previous teaching experience is preferred but not required for this position.

Decision Making Process

Selection Process

Candidates are selected by the ENGR 110 instructor. The instructor will contact candidates by email if they are selected for an interview. You may also be contacted by a member of the First Year Program Office.
