Professor of English as a Second Language

 


Arizona Western College seeks a dedicated Professor of English as a Second Language to provide high-quality instruction to multilingual students. You will design engaging lessons that address diverse language needs, helping students improve their English proficiency, and supporting their academic goals. This role offers the chance to contribute to student success by fostering language skills essential for their educational and professional advancement. There will be opportunities to engage in student advisement and community outreach. Typical Duties:

  • Teach 15 equated load hours per semester, including prep, grading, and submission of student progress and grades; maintain a minimum of 5 office hours weekly.
  • Update course content, syllabus, and course outlines as needed; assess student learning outcomes with the Associate Dean, using methodologies and technologies as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with faculty and the Director of Assessment to evaluate teaching and learning systems; document evidence of student learning annually.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean and faculty to improve student learning outcomes; participate in recruitment, retention, and advisement activities.
  • Maintain 10 hours of positive campus interaction weekly, attend institutional functions, and support strategic initiatives as directed.
  • Engage in professional development outside the College through community events, advisory committees, and conferences, coordinating with the Associate Dean.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in TESL / TEFL / TESOL with an emphasis on composition; or a Master’s in a related field and 18 graduate hours in TESL / TEFL / TESOL
  • Experience teaching a full range of credit- and non-credit ESL courses
  • Experience teaching a full range of English courses (developmental, multilingual, multimodal, etc.)
  • Demonstrated commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college

 

Salary:
Faculty salary range is $54,134 - $67,396, commensurate with education and experience. Discover your placement in our 2024/2025 Faculty Salary Schedule!

  • Instruction assignment dependent upon departmental and/or institutional needs
  • Faculty may be asked to teach on various campuses, via in-person, online, hybrid, and virtual learning environments, as directed by the needs of the institution for a given semester
  • Course scheduling may include daytime, evenings, and/or weekends
