Springfield Technical Community College seeks an applicant for the full-time, tenure track position of Instructor/Assistant Professor and Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education (ACCE) for the Surgical Technology program. The Instructor/Assistant Professor and ACCE will report directly to the Dean, School of Health & Patient Simulation. With the diverse population of the Greater Springfield region, this Instructor/Assistant Professor and ACCE will demonstrate a strong commitment to the value of working with students, faculty and staff that reflect the community. This Instructor/Assistant Professor and ACCE will work together with faculty and staff to create an atmosphere of trust and respect in which all can succeed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The duties of the Instructor/Assistant Professor and ACCE shall include but are not limited to:
  • Monitor contractual agreement/paperwork between the college and clinical sites for
  • the surgical technology program.
  • Work collaboratively with the Health Compliance office to monitor compliance with Health records, national background checks, CORI/SORI Checks, and drug tests for students affiliating with clinical sites.
  • Supervision of student group(s) at clinical sites.
  • Serve as a liaison between Surgical Technology Department Chairperson and clinical managers of affiliation sites.
  • Maintain student records of affiliation including a log of hours, site evaluations of the student, number and types of procedures, achievement of competencies and student evaluation of the site for each surgical technology student attending clinical internships.
  • Inform students of deadlines and requirements related to the surgical technology certification process.
  • Assist in the distribution and collection of graduate and employer survey forms (ARC/STSA requirement)
  • Assist in the recruitment and orientation of new clinical and lab instruction staff;
  • Assist in development of instructional materials and conducting of research on the effectiveness of the instructional program consistent with the philosophy and objectives
  • of the College, the requirements of external and/or regulatory agencies.
  • Instruct courses or portions thereof within the program as appropriate;
  • Assist in the development and help prepare for submission all reports and accreditation materials required by governing or accrediting agencies;
  • Meet with the Advisory Committees which support or influence the instructional
  • program in cooperation with the Department Chair. Assist with establishing liaison and
  • cooperation with external agencies essential to the implementation of the program
  • particularly where use of external facilities or resource personnel is required;
  • Cooperate and facilitate cooperation with other program areas and/or departments, learning, resources, student services and administrative services within the College;
  • Assist in the coordination of sterile processing students at affiliate sites when applicable.
  • Other duties may be assigned if specifically contained in a job description and such duties are consistent with the needs of college.
  • Promotes and engages in inter-professional education and the use of patient simulation as a learning methodology.
  • Assigned hours may be during day, evening or weekends.
  • Participate in campus/off-campus events and professional development activities.
  • Abide by the regulations set out in the Massachusetts Community College Council collective bargaining agreement.
  • Ensure utilization and proper maintenance of specialized learning equipment and materials for safe education and client practice.

Job Requirements:
  • Associate's Degree required, Bachelor's degree or Master's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent scrub experience and three (3) years recent experience as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five (5) years.
  • Experience in curriculum design, clinical coordination, evaluation, instruction, and counseling preferred. Must be able (or learn) to integrate human patient simulation and other simulation experiences into the curriculum.
  • Proof of a current NCCA-approved credential in surgical technology (CST'"", CSFATM, or CST/CSFATM). Proof consists of submission of one of the following documents:
  • A copy of the NBSTSA certification card
  • A copy of the NBSTSA certification certificate
  • A copy of the verification page from the NBSTSA website (www.nbstsa.org).
  • Initial and continued employment dependent upon meeting a National Background Check, Drug Testing, a CORI/SORI check, and medical requirements.

SUPERVISED BY: Dean, School of Health & Patient Simulation. Duties may be assigned during day, evening or weekend hours.
