Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) announces an opportunity to work as a full-time, tenure-track faculty member as the Director of Student Accessibility Services and Learning Disability Specialist for LTCC’s Student Accessibility Services department.

The mission of Student Accessibility Services (SAS) is to promote self-confidence in an educational environment while fostering student independence. LTCC’s SAS is committed to establishing a positive learning environment focused on academic integrity, and sensitivity to our students, while creating a springboard for student success. In SAS, students with disabilities come first, and their individual needs are the focal point.

At LTCC, SAS students typically perform at the same level of the student body as a whole. This is achieved through the accessible, inclusive, and supportive environment led by the SAS Director. LTCC’s SAS provides fair and consistent treatment, encourages independence and self-sufficiency, and recognizes and respects each student’s unique challenges and strengths.

The full-time faculty position will fill the role of director of Student Accessibility Services and Learning Disability (LD) Specialist. This position is a 214-day contract over the period of 12 months, including summer and winter hours with evening and weekend responsibility. With this 50/50 split, the new director will provide LD testing and accommodations to students in SAS.

APPLICATION PROCESS:
After review, applicants judged most suitable for the position will be invited to initial interviews. These applicants will be notified by phone on or about Thursday, February 27, 2025. Initial interviews will be conducted by a committee of campus constituents and are tentatively scheduled for March 13 and 14, 2025.

Finalists will then be invited to a secondary process on April 3 and 4, 2025. Travel allowances and district-provided lodging will be provided to qualifying applicants. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an interview.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Salary Range: LTCC offers a competitive compensation package that includes a starting placement salary of $79,406 to $99,491 annually for faculty who hold a master’s degree or equivalent, dependent upon teaching and work experience, or starting placement salary of $95,836 to $115,922 annually for faculty who hold a doctoral degree, dependent upon teaching and work experience. Health and Welfare benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and long term disability. These benefits also include full coverage of a gold-level medical plan which, on average, covers 80% of healthcare expenses for a standard population. LTCC also matches 19.1% of an eligible employee’s salary and contributes it into a CalSTRS pension account for qualifying employees.

Description

Director of Student Accessibility Services Responsibilities:
  • Provide vision and leadership in Student Accessibility Services (SAS) to support students in consistently meeting academic objectives and goals.
  • Maintain knowledge on federal and state laws, regulations, court decisions, and Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights decisions, disability legislation, and ADA compliance.
  • Serve as an advocate for the inclusion of students with disabilities in all social justice and equity initiatives including Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
  • Attend Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSPS) regional meetings, conferences, and trainings to stay abreast of new or updated information.
  • Adapt and/or supervise the production or adaption of a wide variety of instructional and related materials into a format that can be accessed by students with visual, audio, or related limitations.
  • Provide technical assistance and consultation to the campus community on access requirements for students with disabilities.
  • Maintains a system of strategies for adapting informational and instructional materials into formats that can be readily accessed by students with disabilities.
  • Manages the technology center in coordination with the office of information technology to maintain a variety of adaptive equipment and computer hardware/software.
  • Respond to and address student complaints relating to SAS.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of departmental budget and Management Information Systems (MIS) Data Submission.
  • Assist with the evaluation of SAS staff.
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with local service agencies and K-12 districts.
  • Assist with the selection and coordination of adjunct faculty in the department as needed.
  • Lead in outreach/inreach activities with other departmental staff in promoting SAS resources.
  • Participate in full-time faculty responsibilities including faculty and departmental meetings, departmental planning, community liaison, curriculum development, and committee assignments.
  • Participate in all faculty training days.
  • Ability to develop working relationships with college faculty, staff, and community groups.

Learning Disabilities Specialist Responsibilities:
  • Provide assessment services to students with suspected learning disabilities, using the Learning Disabilities Eligibility Model of the California Community College Chancellor’s Office.
  • Conduct on-going needs assessments as it relates to services, instructional programs assistive devices, etc. that are pertinent to students with learning disabilities.
  • Work with students having a wide range of disabling conditions.
  • Administer, score, and interpret standardized tests to determine eligibility for learning disabilities services.
  • Identify educational limitations and appropriate accommodations for students with learning disabilities.
  • Assist in the development of academic accommodations plan (AAP) for students with disabilities, utilizing appropriate information from educational, medical, psychological, and vocational sources.
  • Maintain appropriate student records for purposes of evaluation and accountability, including federal and state reporting.
  • Consult periodically with staff and counselors on students’ progress.
  • Develop curriculum appropriate for students with disabilities.
  • Develop quarterly class schedules for students when appropriate.
  • Teach developmental skills courses.
  • Provide educational workshops for learning disabled students.
  • Assist in the development of projects and proposals concerning students with learning disabilities.
  • Assist students with problems related to academic progress and success.

Minimum Qualification

REQUIRED:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree in learning disabilities, special education, education, psychology, speech language pathology, communication disorders, educational or school psychology, counseling, or rehabilitation counseling AND 15 semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of learning disabilities, to include, adult cognitive and achievement assessment
  • Or the equivalent.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic,
    cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Familiarity with students who have a broad range of various disabilities and education limitations
  • Ability to work independently
  • E-learning and distance learning access issues
