The program assistant in this position will provide education and leadership for the Extension 4-H program in Henderson County.

Duties and Responsibilities
This position is a full-time , 37.5-hour per week position. This position is 100% funded by state and county funding and contingent upon available funding.

The Extension 4-H Program Assistant has the responsibility to support the 4-H Agent in creating a well-rounded 4-H program in Henderson County. Supporting the 4-H program involves being a facilitator and creator of 4-H Special Interest Programs and volunteer recruitment. Current/ongoing special interest program examples include Sewing, Agricultural Day Camp, Mini Gardening, the FRESH program at the Carl Sandburg Historic Site, livestock judging, and cooking with STEM. Other responsibilities include assisting with 4-H Club administration/activities, school enrichment programs, County, District and State events when needed.
A primary role of this position involves recruiting and training volunteers to manage programs in a productive manner and to identify resources to assist in conducting these programs. A key role of this position is to work with advisory committees to identify needs for the program and the community. Applicants must be available for evening, nights, and weekend activities. An accurate record of hours worked must be maintained daily and accomplishments documented in the Extension Reporting System. Assists in marketing 4-H in the county through newsletters, newspaper articles, Facebook, websites, and other media. Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
4-H is considered a non-profit organization.
Applicants must be available for evening, nights, and weekend activities when needed.
Other Work/Responsibilities
The Extension Program Assistant/Associate receives direct supervision from the County Extension Director with input from the 4-H agent.
Travel within county is required; district and state travel are required occasionally

Monday - Friday 8:30 - 5 business hours, with occasional flex hours to attend night and/or weekend events to support the Henderson County 4-H Program.Minimum Experience/Education
The minimum requirement for employment with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension (NCCE) is a high-school diploma or equivalent. Advanced training in related fields is preferred.
Department Required Skills
The Extension Program Assistant/Associate must have the ability to plan, organize, and work with adult volunteer leaders. They must have the ability to relate to and understand youth. They must have an interest in and understanding of the needs, problems, and attitudes of youth and adults.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Experience working with persons of broad backgrounds and/or with the development, training, and recruitment of volunteers is preferred.
They should possess the ability to work creatively with persons of various backgrounds. Applicants should be able to express comments and opinions clearly and concisely in oral and/or written form, as well as the ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with youth and adults, the general community, and staff.
The position often requires lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 30 pounds frequently. The job also requires sustained periods of standing and sitting and occasional periods of kneeling, stooping and reaching. The job occasionally requires exposure to extreme heat and humidity and exposure to the sun. The person must be able to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound. The job requires appropriate visual acuity with or without correction and possess dexterity to perform the normal duties of the job.
Required License or Certification
Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation are required and must be maintained.
