Dr. Ruijuan Xu’s group in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at North Carolina State University is seeking a hands-on experimentalist to synthesize and process complex oxide thin films and membranes and understand the complex interplay of degrees of freedom in such materials.

- Oxide thin-film and heterostructure synthesis and characterization, device fabrication and measurement
- Analysis of scientific data
- Disseminate findings through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at conferences, symposia, or review meetings
- Prepare oral and written progress reports
- Assist writing research proposals
Other Work/Responsibilities
Maintain synthesis and characterization equipment and assist with the mentorship and training of graduate and undergraduate students
Work Schedule
40 hours minimum per week from Monday - Friday 9:00 AM - 5 PM, may include weekend and evening hours as well as travelDepartment Required Skills

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
• Ph.D. in physics, materials sciences, chemistry, or related fields.
• Experience in the study of complex oxide thin films and membranes, preferably in thin-film synthesis (e.g., PLD) and thin-film characterization.
• Demonstrated effective written and verbal communications skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse group.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Willingness to learn and bridge knowledge/experience gaps.
• Experience in the study of complex oxide thin films and membranes, preferably in thin-film synthesis (e.g., PLD) and thin-film characterization.
• Demonstrated effective written and verbal communications skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse group.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
