Under direction of ACP Animal Resources Supervisor, employee will be responsible for physical environment for group of assigned laboratory animals. Perform routine animal health-related tasks. Perform basic animal husbandry, cage washing, and assist with rodent colony maintenance (breeding, weaning, etc.). Operate computer, maintain records on animal deliveries, print and maintain all cage identification.
QUALIFICATIONSAbility to use and understand basic medical terminology, and to be sensitive to the needs of caged laboratory animals. Skill to recognize normal and abnormal body functions in a variety of laboratory animals.
Skill in clinical diagnostic lab specimen collection techniques, and ability to administer medication to laboratory animals: oral, topical, injectable
Working knowledge of laws and regulations that govern housing and management of lab animals. Knowledge of humane methods of euthanasia in laboratory animals, and ability to perform euthanasia as directed.
Ability to follow direction, to be thorough performing assigned tasks, to organize work, and flexibility to adjust work schedule to accommodate varying workloads.
Manual dexterity and ability to write legibly and use metric system. Ability to operate a computer and telephone.
Skill to operate and maintain mechanical equipment, autoclave, cagewasher, vehicle, janitorial equipment (i.e. floor scrubber). Ability to learn and apply principles of sanitizing and disinfecting.
Ability to work with a diverse group of people, and to exercise diplomacy and flexibility interacting with a diverse and multi-national scientific staff.
AALAS certification ALAT or higher preferred.
Valid California Drivers License required.
Position contingent upon satisfactory background & DMV check and pre-employment physical examination clearance.
Work overtime, weekends and holidays.
Work in biohazard and radioactive areas. Wear protective clothing and equipment.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $47,335 - $60,322 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $22.67 - $28.89
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
