DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health is expanding its award-winning communications team and needs an experienced executive/internal communications practitioner to serve the communication needs of the CEO of UC San Diego Health. The individual will join an accomplished team of professionals who are passionate about developing strategic, timely and effective communications that inspire and motivate employees and key external audiences.

Under the supervision of the senior director of executive communications, the communications manager, is dedicated to the communications needs of UC San Diego Health's chief executive officer. The communications manager is responsible for researching and developing content, coordinating approvals, and executing distributions of internal and external communications including presentations, internal memoranda, social media posts, press release quotes, letters, and broader communications for a variety of audiences including leadership, team members, board members, donors, and elected officials.

This position requires keen attention to detail, strong project management skills, excellent organizational skills, and timely follow-up. A strong multi-tasker with the ability to remain flexible in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.

Adept at creating communications that demonstrate clarity, accuracy, nuance, humanity and transparency. Understands equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) themes and the importance of messaging EDI priorities in systemwide communications. Strong research skills, a collaborative mindset and respect for the time of leadership essential.

Must be capable of translating complex, nuanced and jargon-based information into clear, understandable and actionable communications. Strong content creation and editing skills are critical to this role, as materials will need to be refined and adapted for ease of comprehension while maintaining the voice of the CEO.

Other duties for this role include research and/or writing assignments that serve the communications needs for the UC San Diego Health Newsroom and other campus channels.

This position will be on-call for leadership communication needs as well as crisis communication response. Part of on-call rotation for Hospital Command Center, if activated.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Nine (9) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus five (5) years of related experience/training. Related experience: Content creation and distribution, including memorandum, presentations, quotes for press releases, speeches, and social media posts.

  • Experience and proven knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated experience with c-suite communications.

  • Ability to measure, analyze and translate communications content performance.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $94,400 - $176,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $45.21 - $84.67

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
