Provides support to faculty and programs in course development and converting courses and programs to online, face-to-face, and hybrid delivery modalities. This position requires knowledge of competency-based education (CBE). The instructional designer should be familiar with utilizing cutting-edge and creative design and course delivery options. Responsibilities include analysis, design, development, and implementation of online courses, hybrid CBE courses, and face-to-face curriculum design; proactive consultation with faculty to identify and clarify course learning objectives and content; draft storyboards and mock-ups; and write and develop content, especially quizzes and assessments, as needed. Minimum requirements typically include Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, curriculum and instruction learning sciences, or related field.
The Instructional Designer plays a role in shaping innovative, engaging, and effective learning experiences for students in technical education courses and general education courses. This position will focus efforts on developing technical education courses in a hybrid CBE framework. Working with general education faculty when needed. The designer will help the Teaching and Learning Center develop evaluation rubrics for online and CBE courses. The designer will also be assigned courses to review to ensure that the courses are at a high standard. This position requires working closely with faculty to develop and implement instructional materials, curriculum, and technology-enhanced courses that align with educational goals. This position involves the application of instructional design principles, including needs analysis, content development, multimedia integration, and assessment creation. The goal is to promote student success through transformative and forward-thinking educational practices.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a(n) Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Learning Sciences, Curriculum and Instruction or a closely related field OR any combination of education and experience totaling 2-3 year(s).

Major Responsibilities/Duties

1. Curriculum Design and Development:
Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to design and develop innovative curriculum and learning materials.
Ensure academic alignment, quality standards, and reflection of Snow College’s vision and mission in all student learning experiences
2. Instructional Technology Integration:
Implement and integrate instructional technologies and multimedia tools to enhance the learning experience.
Provide support and training to faculty in the effective use of these technologies.
3. Needs Assessment and Analysis:
Conduct needs assessments and analysis to understand learning objectives, audience characteristics, and content requirements.
Consult with faculty/SMEs during course analysis, design, development, and evaluation.
4. Content Creation and Editing:
Create, edit, and refine instructional content, including course materials, assessments, and digital resources.
Help faculty/SMEs develop objective-driven courses that are engaging and applicable.
5. Faculty Support and Training:
Provide support and training to faculty in effective use of instructional technology and design principles.
Assist faculty/SMEs in identifying appropriate learning resources that align with course outcomes and objectives.
6. Evaluation and Assessment:
Develop and implement assessment tools to evaluate the effectiveness of instructional materials and courses.
Conduct quality assurance reviews and evaluate accessibility in courses, helping faculty/SMEs improve.
7. Stay Current with Trends:
Keep abreast of emerging trends and best practices in instructional design, educational technology, and pedagogy.
Apply current evidence-based practices to course design and conduct periodic reviews for continuous improvement.

Knowledge:

  • Instructional Design Principles: Comprehensive understanding of instructional design methodologies and frameworks, including ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation), Dick and Carey Instructional Design Model, or Gagne’s Nine Events of Instruction.
  • Curriculum Development: Knowledge of curriculum design principles and practices to create engaging and effective educational experiences.
  • Learning Technologies: Proficiency in a variety of educational technologies, including Learning Management Systems (LMS), especially Canvas, multimedia production tools, and collaboration platforms.
  • Assessment and Evaluation Methods: Understanding of assessment and evaluation techniques to measure learning outcomes and course effectiveness.
  • Educational Trends: Awareness of current and emerging trends in educational technology, digital pedagogy, and instructional design.
Skills:
  • Content Creation and Editing: Ability to create and edit instructional materials, assessments, and digital content.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with faculty, academic departments, and other stakeholders.
  • Training and Facilitation: Experience in conducting training sessions and workshops for faculty on instructional design and technology integration.
  • Problem-Solving: Analytical and problem-solving skills to address challenges in curriculum design, technology integration, and learning experience enhancement.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with faculty, academic departments, and stakeholders to design and implement educational content and technology integration.
  • Adaptability: Capacity to adapt instructional design practices and educational technologies to evolving educational needs and trends.
