Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Design And Construction, the Director is responsible for supervising the Design & Construction Department.

 

This includes oversight covering Rose Hill and Lincoln Center campuses on various construction, renovation, and restoration projects throughout the University’s facilities.

 

Essential Functions         

  • Oversees technical and financial aspects of construction projects from inception to completion. Supports projects at all University campuses and properties.
  • Delegates and assigns projects amongst staff; makes recommendations for the selection and supervision of outside consultants.
  • Oversees bidding processes, including analyzing bids and contractor selection, ensuring the procurement process follows departmental workflows and procedures.
  • Participates in cap­ital project planning and budget preparation with Assistant VP and Direction of Operations.
  • Prepares and/or oversees engineering studies, meets with technical consultants, and prepares/reviews technical specifications.
  • Reviews construction drawings and specifications and approves/revises as required.
  • Maintains project schedules, inspects work in place, and authorizes payments.
  • Identifies, assesses, and manages project risks. Develops risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
  • Compiles reports for the AVP assessing project progress, performance, adherence to department standards, etc.

Management Responsibilities   

Supervises the work of other Fordham employees who are individual contributors. Responsible for hiring, training and developing, managing performance and administering corrective action. Has significant input in compensation decisions.

           

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience         

  • B.S. Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Architecture.
  • Minimum of 7 years in construction management with supervisory experience of project managers.

 

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills       

  • Proficiency in technical matters concerning overall construction, including strong knowledge of construction practices, methods, materials, and standards.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects independently and effectively.
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Advanced degree.
  • Experience in facilities design, construction, and owner’s representation.
  • PE or RA license or ability to obtain preferred.

 

Minimum Starting Salary: $176,000

 

Maximum Starting Salary: $186,000

 

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
