Johns Hopkins University’s central resource for employee-related data is managed within the Human Resources (HR) function. To ensure effective and efficient HR processes, it is essential that employee data is gathered and maintained accurately. This position will be responsible for identifying a university-wide HR data oversight strategy to identify and resolve data integrity issues and manage data accuracy moving forward, with the support of other HR data and analysis support personnel. In addition, this position will be a key resource in the strategic planning, socialization process and data migration oversight efforts related to the university’s transition from SAP to a new Enterprise Resource Planning system (Workday), targeted for July 2027.

 

The role requires a self-motivated thought leader with robust technical skills and the ability to collaborate across HR functional areas and with divisional and university leadership. This role will be primarily responsible for creating the vision, strategy, and goals around the transformation of data and tools to ensure accuracy, reporting, and transferability to the new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system (Workday), along with building the HR data and analysis support team.

 

 

This work will involve partnership with divisional and central administration groups to uncover data issues and inconsistencies, as well as research and planning to implement improved processes and procedures that support on-going data integrity.

 

The position will turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound decisions. Other responsibilities will include working across requester's divisions and offices to provide data that is clean, congruent and reliable; proposing innovative ways to look at problems by mining available data; and mentoring analytics staff on tools and frameworks.

 

We are seeking a Director, HR Data and Analytics who will be part of the Office of Total Rewards and will serve as a critical member of the HR data and analysis team. This team will oversee processes related to providing timely, accurate, and insightful data to inform university strategic initiatives across multiple domains.


 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of a strategic vision for HR data and analytics that is aligned with organizational goals.
  • Partner with HR and divisional leaders to identify and address their HR data and analytics needs.
  • Works with HR leaders to uncover data issues and develop/lead innovative methods for ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Collaborates with HR functional leaders to analyze current transactions and develop new strategies for efficient and effective business process changes.
  • Works with HR leaders and Data team to develop and implement an auditing and monitoring process that verifies the accuracy of HR information on a regular and recurring basis and partners closely with others on developing and executing current state data cleanup.
  • Develop and implement an HR data governance framework to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and security of HR data.
  • Works with HR leadership to socialize proposed business process changes and data integrity efforts, to ensure thoughtful change management.
  • Develops innovative and effective approaches to solve analytics problems and communicates results and methodologies.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into easy-to-understand stories and insights for broad audiences.
  • Works closely with the ERP team to define and build the data structures, and the quality and accuracy of converted data, that will be needed to transition from SAP.
  • Oversees data integrity initiatives related to planned ERP implementation and related data migration strategy, including a detailed process and data mapping project plan. Works effectively with the ERP team to ensure that HR data is accurate and transferable.
  • Manage and prioritize data management projects and initiatives to ensure timely and accurate customer service.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders at all levels in the institution, building working relationships that support enhanced data management oversight collaboration.
  • Builds and leads a data team to oversee on-going and proactive management of HR information.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant discipline.
  • Seven years of related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with HRIS systems, including SAP (JHU central HR/Payroll system) and Workday.
  • Experience with ERP system implementations involving large and complex data migration needs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with master data management solutions and tools.
  • Project and change management experience.

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of statistical techniques.
  • The ability to come up with solutions to loosely defined business problems by leveraging pattern detection over potentially large datasets.
  • Experience with statistical modeling and experience with programming skills and query writing.
  • Experience participating in data science projects that demonstrate business or research value.
  • Experience with automated analyses and reproducible analytic products.
  • Experience presenting complex analyses to support change recommendations.
  • Must demonstrate strong critical thinking and analytical reasoning skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple priorities effectively and prioritize conflicting demands to meet pre-determined deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build strong working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the service of users and colleagues.
  • Sound documentation skills. Writes and communicates clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must demonstrate exemplary customer service skills.

Starting Salary Range: $99,800 - $175,000 Annually (Commensurate with experience)

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
