Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Artificial Intelligence Interdisciplinary Institute at Maryland (AIM) is a new, interdisciplinary academic and research unit which will serve as the hub for interdisciplinary AI work on the College Park Campus. Though AIM is being designed to scale up quickly, it is small right now and needs one business manager to initiate all business and human resources related tasks.

- A bachelor’s degree and at least five years of business office work (procurement, payroll, accounting, etc.) on the UMD campus or on another college campus which uses the Workday system is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Knowledge of university, state, and federal rules and regulations
- The ability to work in a team

- Reviewing and approving pcard procurements made by other administrative personnel in the unit and completing requests for all large procurements through the central procurement office, ensuring that each transaction is allowable and executed and documented appropriately, in accordance with all campus, state, and federal policies, procedures, and laws.
- Executing the human resources functions of the unit, providing employees with information on payroll and benefits, creating and updating payroll appointments and funding sources, shepherding visa applications, and maintaining appropriate records securely.
- Reconciling all department accounts (including on-campus and foundation), via the BA4 shadow system, and submits documentation to Executive Director for review and approval on a monthly basis.
- Managing travel approval and expense requests and helping with pre-award duties, as needed. Also performs other duties and undertakes other projects as assigned.
There is definitely room for growth in this position for someone who takes initiative and shows good potential.
