Essential Functions
Job Summary
The Senior Manager of Compensation will oversee and manage the strategic direction, administration, and delivery of the compensation program. They will plan, develop, and implement new and revised compensation programs and policies to align with the University's goals. This position is also responsible for ensuring that the University's compensation programs are consistently administered in compliance with internal policies and government regulations.
Core Responsibilities
- Develops and executes strategy and guiding principles for the compensation program.
- Oversees compensation data and reporting to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the data.
- Manages all third-party vendors for compensation and coordinates with UT System on programs administered centrally.
- Interprets policy and procedure in compensation and provides recommendations to PE leadership; ensures compliance with federal, state, and local compensation laws and regulations.
- Evaluates and manages compliance risk within compensation.
- Monitors the effectiveness of existing compensation practices and recommends changes consistent with compensation trends and the University's objectives.
- Guides staff on pay decisions, policy interpretations, and job evaluations.
- Oversees the participation in salary surveys and monitors salary survey data to ensure compensation objectives are achieved.
- Coordinates approval of new position descriptions or changes to existing descriptions.
- Works with departments to ensure positions and accompanying salary ranges are aligned to support the organization optimally. Makes recommendations as appropriate for job structure changes, and works with departments for implementation.
- Responsible for review of position reclassification requests. Determines if the proposed position meets departmental requirements and is a fit with the job duties being performed.
- Drives change through process improvement and metrics-driven leadership. Develops and manages metrics scorecard for compensation, analyzes for key issues and trends, and partners with key stakeholders to develop strategies and solutions.'
- Analyzes data, conducts market research, and creates strategies to attract and retain top talent.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Five or more (5+) years of professional experience in compensation.
- Two (2) years of people leadership experience building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams.
- Demonstrated ability to perform compensation data analysis and policy review.
- Relevant experience supporting enterprise and HR systems that facilitate efficiency and effectiveness through efficient business processes and reporting.
- Relevant experience in developing metrics, dashboards, and reporting tools and capabilities.'
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with leaders and practitioners at all levels.
- Ability to drive strategy, work with data and analytics, and demonstrate capability in formulating and implementing effective and creative strategies.
- Ability to coach and mentor.
- Ability to facilitate problem-solving and approach client issues from a solution-oriented stance.
- Ability to assess and prioritize risks and issues and evaluate competing needs.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Human Resources or a related field from an accredited institution.
- CCP, SHRM-CP/SCP, HRCI-PHR/SPHR, or other relevant certification. Experience in higher education setting.

Working Conditions
Working Environment:
- Office environment.
- Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events.
- Occasional after-hours and weekend work or overtime may be required.
- Hybrid: On-campus & remote, available to come to campus when necessary.
Physical Demands:
- Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.
- Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.
This position will require working both remotely in Texas and on campus (approximately five or more days on campus per month). Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments. Applicants must be local to San Antonio, TX or willing to relocate.
