Postdoctoral Associate, Frontiers in Engineering Education

Job Description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, FRONTIERS IN ENGINEERING EDUCATION, Mechanical Engineering (MechE)-Learning Engineering and Practice (LEAP) Group, to help lead new manufacturing engineering education projects by carrying out education research, creating impactful instructional content, and crafting engaging blended learning experiences; and take a leadership role on various projects, including the research and development of next-generation manufacturing education.  MIT’s LEAP Group applies design and systems principles to solve learning challenges and develops learning experiences to better meet the increasing demand for STEM skills in the workforce.  The goal of this project is to prepare mechanical engineering students to address the advances and challenges of society and manufacturing.  Responsibilities include conducting research to identify promising areas that may include learning effectiveness, learner engagement, knowledge retention, competency, and self-efficacy; carrying out education research experiments across a range of in-person and online education offerings; publishing and disseminating research findings via journals, conferences, and/or industry events; leading the design and creation of content for blended and online manufacturing courses, with a focus on curriculum design and including assessment creation, recitation videos, and other supporting material; collaborating on discipline-specific design and pedagogy in AR/VR apps and simulations; facilitating residential and online learning experiences; and performing other duties as assigned. 

Job Requirements:

 REQUIRED:  Ph.D. in engineering that includes domain-specific expertise in manufacturing; teaching experience in STEM fields in higher education settings; proficiency evaluating the effectiveness of learning materials; working knowledge of/ability to learn languages commonly used in engineering (e.g., MATLAB, Python); excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills; and ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment, work independently, and build strong collaborative relationships with teammates/faculty/staff.  Job #24381

This is a one-year term appointment with the possibility of multiple extensions for terms of one or more years.
