The Bloomberg School of Public Health, Department of Population, Family, and Reproductive Health is seeking a Research Data Analyst.

Our Collaborators
For more than ten years, our team has collaborated with leaders in New Jersey’s Department of Health and Department of Children and Families on research, evaluation and continuous quality improvement. By collaborating across state departments and creatively leveraging federal and state funding, New Jersey has created a unique, progressive early childhood system of care. NJ’s system features a statewide central intake system (Connecting NJ) for at-risk pregnant and parenting people which links eligible families interested in services to a variety of resources in their communities. With sophisticated data systems and a well-developed infrastructure for collaborating with parents and families, New Jersey is a national leader in the early childhood space.
New Jersey recently began implementing Family Connects NJ, a brief, universal newborn home visiting program in which parents can receive home visits by a trained nurse in the first several weeks following the child’s birth. Participation in Family Connects NJ is free, voluntary, and available to all new parents regardless of background or income. The program is currently operating in five counties and plans to expand to additional counties over the coming years.
Our Research Data Analyst Position
The Research Data Analyst will be responsible for data management, manipulation and analysis, as well as quality control of project databases and documentation of data analysis activities. The Research Data Analyst will primarily analyze Family Connects NJ program data and may contribute to cleaning and analyzing data from New Jersey’s early childhood home visiting programs and the state’s central intake system (Connecting NJ).
We are looking for an analytically gifted individual who will support our team in carrying out research, evaluation and quality improvement work to support the implementation of Family Connects NJ. The ideal candidate for the position is a self-motivated, responsible, detail-oriented individual with excellent organizational abilities. Applicants must be able to work independently in a self-directed fashion while managing multiple tasks.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Data management
- Work with large administrative datasets (with 1000+ observations) to clean, restructure, and merge data sets, create new variables, and conduct data quality checks. This could involve writing new code or updating existing code in R.
- Compile monthly data from multiple secondary data sources to produce routine reports on program implementation for each community and at the state-level.
- Create and maintain documentation about datasets, e.g. data dictionaries or flowcharts.
- Ensure that data files are organized and up to date.
- Identify and propose solutions to systematic issues with data.
- Collaborate with research team to resolve data issues.
Data analysis
- Use R to code for and run descriptive statistics on cross-sectional administrative data and conduct basic statistical analyses.
- Create analysis-ready datasets for members of the research team.
Communication
- Interpret, summarize and present analyses in various formats including raw output, tables, graphs, and oral and written reports. This could include internal presentations as well as presentations to external partners.
- Contribute to writing, reviewing, and referencing for reports, presentations, publications, and grant proposals.
- Communicate effectively with the team and proactively bring questions and concerns to the team.
Other
- Contribute to internal review board applications and renewals.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant data security and compliance protocols.
- Perform other evaluation and continuous quality improvement-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
- Three years related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in related discipline preferred.
- Relevant disciplines include public health, public policy, epidemiology, biostatistics, economics or similar discipline.
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Candidate must be detail-oriented and have outstanding organizational skills.
- This position requires strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in R and Excel required.
- Proficiency in an additional software package (SAS, Stata or SPSS) is desirable, but not required.
- Candidates must be skilled in analysis and interpretation of secondary data and dissemination of results through written and oral communications.
- Candidates must be able to work independently as well as communicate and collaborate effectively in a team environment.

Starting Salary Range: $48,000- $84,100 Annually (Commensurate with experience)
