Position Summary:

The Director of Student Support Services is responsible for providing oversight to the Office of Accessibility, the TRIO Student Support Services program and the Student Wellness Center. This includes creating partnerships and solutions to address barriers for students in areas including food insecurity, housing insecurity, mental health, and acute counseling support. Creating and delivering professional development opportunities for faculty and staff is an essential component, integrating short-term intervention strategies and referrals to community resources as appropriate for concerns related to academic and personal success. The director of Student Support Services ensures compliance of regulations for federal programs.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, education, human services, social work or related field.

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Board certified licensed clinical mental health counselor (LCMHC) supervisor.
  • Community college experience with adult and high school students.
  • Academic and career advising or guidance experience at secondary or post-secondary level.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite software.
Ability to use electronic advising tools, academic and career tools.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Develop and deliver presentations

Duty and Responsibility:

  • Provides leadership to the TRIO Student Support Services team and ensures compliance with federal regulations relative to the TRIO grant. Supervises the Basic Needs Coordinator, Disability Services Counselors, and the Wellness Center Staff.

Duty and Responsibility:

  • Provides state and grant budget management for related programs.

Duty and Responsibility:

  • Facilitates the academic probation process for academic recovery with goals that assist in student retention.

Duty and Responsibility:

  • Participates in activities to recruit and retain students, including career development, academic advising, and registration.

  • Develops and maintains a database of referral resources for social service agencies within the local community; facilitates relationships with off-campus agencies and resources to connect students to long-term support.

  • Assists in maintaining the current directory of community resources available to students, website updates and promotional content regularly.

  • Conducts initial intake meetings with students to assess needs for appropriate campus services and community referrals to include housing agencies, social services, mental health services, financial support agencies, food services, and other basic needs for students.

  • Facilitates the use of the Early Alert System to assist students in making use of college and/or community services by monitoring and tracking individual cases and progress to ensure compliance with recommendations, ongoing assessment and address new or emerging concerns as they arise or transition from campus services to external providers.

  • Creates and presents professional development workshops and events for students, faculty and staff relative to campus and community support services.

  • Provides acute crisis intervention for students with immediate definable needs such as shelter, food, financial, transportation, mental health, and legal support.

  • Manages campus food pantries, coordinating donations and disbursement processes. Prepares semi-annual reporting and assessment of student basic needs.

  • Consults and collaborates regularly with relevant departments on campus regarding services, access, and care to maintain strong collaborative relationships with campus partners in Student Support Services, Financial Aid and Emergency Aid, Academic Advising, Campus Security, Student Life and Leadership, and other areas to provide a comprehensive network of support for students in need.

  • Creates and maintains Policies and Procedures relevant to ADA and Accessibility for students with disabilities.

  • Serves as a confidential source for students relevant to Title IX cases.
