Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

This is a non-teaching, management position within the Artificial Intelligence Interdisciplinary Institute at Maryland (AIM). In furtherance of one of the stated goals of the institute, the Director, Academic Program Operations will organize the development and/or coordinate the implementation of new BA and BS programs in AI and its use across disciplines. They will work with administrators and students in every unit on campus to create and implement these new programs and to develop the infrastructure to support them, including student advising, career services, assessment and evaluation of student progress, etc. They will work with the faculty leadership in AIM to develop and implement academic policies and they will supervise the academic advisors and any other academic support staff that may be added as the program grows.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Master’s degree in higher education administration/management or related field.

Experience:
At least 7-10 years experience providing student services and/or designing/implementing/managing academic programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent organizational, communication (oral and written), management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to creatively solve problems.
  • Exceptional customer service and teamwork skills.
  • Must be self-directed and self-motivated.

Preferences:

Experience in the UMD system is desirable.

Additional Information:

Duties include, but are not necessarily limited to:
  • Organizing the efforts of AIM faculty leadership and faculty across campus, who are involved in the development of the program, in preparing course and curriculum proposals for the BA and BS degrees in AI. This includes working through PCC and VPAC proposals/approvals.
  • Design, implement, and manage the infrastructure for all areas of the academic experience within the AIM majors. This includes course scheduling and staffing; student admissions, orientation, advising, and support; and evaluation of student progress and the effectiveness of the academic offerings.
  • Work broadly with campus and AIM leadership, faculty, and students to ensure that AIM is providing a truly accessible, inclusive, cross-disciplinary program that is serving all of the campus units and constituents. Ensures that feedback is heard and responded to with respect to AIM’s academic programs and initiatives.
  • Manage advising and ensure that students are receiving consistent, high quality support for current and prospective students in the programs.
  • Other duties as assigned. This is a brand new Institute, so all of the positions will grow and change as the organization grows and develops.
