Essential Job Duties
The Operational Auditor primarily performs risk-based assurance audits and advisory/consulting engagements with a combination of operational, financial, IT, investigative, and compliance elements. This is a highly skilled, professional auditing position with work performed in accordance with the Internal Audit Division’s (IAD) Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Standards.
In this role, critical thinking and creative problem resolution are essential competencies. You will be expected to apply advanced level audit and risk management knowledge, skills, and experience in performing audits and analyses of highly specialized, complex administrative and academic programmatic functions and processes in continuously new subject areas. Work in this role gives you the freedom to operate independently with minimal supervision. You’ll conduct your own thorough examinations and analysis of risks, processes, internal controls, complex reports, records and financial data. Professional judgment must be used to determine accuracy, completeness, appropriateness, efficiency, effectiveness, and regulatory and procedural compliance of all processes, programs, systems, and situations reviewed.
Additionally, you will serve as a technical resource for IAD and the University in unique and unprecedented issues and situations. You will be tasked with carrying out comprehensive root cause analysis on all issues and articulating, both verbally and in writing, well-founded and defensible audit results and management reports, particularly for complex or contentious cases, including those involving Hot Line allegations as assigned. The successful candidate will be able to earn the trust of University constituents to create strong, collaborative relationships in IAD and across the University.
We will be hiring two Operational Auditor positions, this posting will remain open until both positions are filled.

Minimum Education and Experience
Requires post-baccalaureate credentials plus 2-4 years experience; a bachelor’s degree plus 3-5 years experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
Other Required Qualifications
- Experience in professional work environments and internal auditing, with university experience considered a plus
- Detailed knowledge of audit processes and risk assessment theory
- Familiarity with IIA Standards
- Ability to recognize, research, and stay current with developments and trends in various areas of risk significant to higher education, specifically at NCSU
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an R1 university environment, a plus.
- Expertise in data analytics and visualization (e.g., Tableau) and ERP systems (PeopleSoft) preferred.
- 7 years related work experience desired
Required License(s) or Certification(s)
IIA certification(s) or other audit/compliance/risk related certification (e.g., CIA, CFE, CGAP, CICP, CRMA, QAIL, CISA, CCEP, CRMP, etc)
Valid NC Driver's License required
