The Operations, Logistics, & Environments department, part of the Libraries’ Learning Spaces & Capital Management division, manages Libraries operations, projects, and support services, including events support and the efficient movement of a high volume of materials and user-requested resources between the Hill, Hunt, and branch libraries. The department supports strategic initiatives, needs assessments, infrastructure evaluation and maintenance, cost analysis, and implementation of library operational projects, including renovations. Department staff establish guidelines and standard operating procedures for supplies inventory and for receiving and distribution of incoming library collections and equipment, along with general materials management and daily mail and campus delivery services.

Essential Job Duties

The Support Services Associate delivers library resources to NC State University Libraries branches; receives and distributes incoming acquisitions, mail, and other shipments for the Libraries; maintains, organizes, and distributes supplies inventory; and performs a variety of tasks in support of library operations.

Duties include the following:
  • Serves as primary delivery driver
  • Receives large volumes of materials (books, technology, mail, equipment, supplies), inspects and verifies deliveries, and ensures the security of items received. Distributes materials to various library locations.
  • Prepares and processes materials for shipping or outgoing mail
  • Responds to requests from internal customers and conducts routine business with suppliers and vendors
  • Assists with office supplies inventory and ordering processes
  • Assists with office moves, event set-ups, and maintenance needs

Minimum Experience/Education

High school diploma or equivalency.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated customer-service orientation; ability to meet high service standards in all interactions (in-person, by telephone, via e-mail, or online)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of receiving, shipping, and distribution processes (such as U.S. mail or other delivery systems)
  • Demonstrated experience with various office and productivity software tools, including word processing, email, web browsers, and spreadsheets or databases
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to foster an environment of belonging and well-being
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, including the ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-volume, high-demand environment
  • Ability to lift 60 pounds, climb ladders and stairs; may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
