The Department of Molecular and Structural Biochemistry at NC State University conducts research in protein structure and function, metabolism in immune function and disease, and molecular basis of living chemical processes. We engage in innovative research that is internally and externally funded, publish high impact peer-reviewed manuscripts, and administer graduate and undergraduate academic programs in biochemistry.
The Department of Molecular and Structural Biochemistry at NC State offers degree programs at the Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral levels, in addition to a combined BS/MS program. Innovative research programs in the undergraduate and graduate curricula prepare students for advanced studies in medical school, graduate school or other post-graduate programs, or careers in biotechnology and biomedical industries, academia or government.

Essential Job Duties
The Department of Molecular and Structural Biochemistry is seeking a Research Assistant.

- Conduct molecular biology techniques, including bacterial transformation and culture for protein production.
- Perform routine culture, transfection, maintenance, and assays of human cell lines.
- Execute experiments involving PCR, DNA and RNA preparation, aseptic techniques, protein purification, protein chromatography, biophysical characterization of proteins, and western blot analysis.
- Assist in daily research laboratory operations, such as supervising students, ensuring compliance with chemical and biosafety regulations, and managing the ordering of supplies and reagents.
- Support the use of animal models for studying human tumor formation as needed.
- Contribute to data dissemination and manuscript preparation.
- Attend and participate in regularly scheduled lab meetings.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree
OR
- Relevant Bachelor’s degree plus 3 or more years of independent research experience
OR
- Substantative relevant independent experience and education.
Other Required Qualifications
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a team environment, demonstrated through regular attendance and participation in lab meetings.
- Ability to manage and order laboratory supplies and reagents efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of research in biochemistry, protein chemistry, or related skills
