Job Description

Tutoring Center Coordinator:

Duties and Responsibilities: The Tutoring Center Coordinator is responsible to the Director of the PASS Department. This is a security-sensitive position and is subject to a criminal history record. (Texas Government Code 411.094 & Texas Education Code 51.215)

Specific duties include:

1. Coordinate all Vernon Tutoring Center services so that every student utilizing the Tutoring Center has the opportunity to succeed.

2. Assist students who request online or face-to-face tutoring, and supervise tutors where applicable.

3. Employ and supervise tutors through consultation with the PASS Department Director and appropriate faculty.

4. Help recruit students for tutoring by producing and posting flyers, speaking to classes, sending emails to instructors, providing information for the website, electronic bulletin boards, and other media where appropriate, and by implementing other recruiting strategies deemed appropriate by the Director of the PASS Center and the Vice President of Instructional Services.

5. Travel as needed.

6. Provide training, with input from the PASS Department Director, for Tutoring Center tutors and staff.

7. Tutor students in subject areas as qualified and as needed.

8. Assist Director with open registration services where needed.

9. Assist the New Beginnings Coordinator with the New Beginnings Program.

10. Document all student information as requested by the Director of the PASS Department as well as student attendance, student semester grades for every subject tutored, and all other services in the Tutoring Centers.

11. Act as supervisor for tutor time sheets when tutors are non-contracted, part-time employees.

12. Plan, organize, and conduct Tutoring Center orientations each semester, including visiting classrooms to advertise the Center’s services.

13. Act as website administrator for the PASS Department.

14. Assist the Director of the PASS Department and/or the Quiet Testing Proctors in returning instructor letters and in providing other services for students requesting accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act, including alternative testing. Communicate with the Director concerning the progress of all ADA students using the Tutoring Center.

15. Supervise ADA students for mandated Internet testing or other testing in the Tutoring Center as needed.

16. Coordinate Tutoring Center services for all qualified ADA students and communicate with the PASS Department Director concerning their progress.

17. Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of the PASS Department, the Vice President of Instructional Services, and the President.

Travel: Very limited

Experience and Training: 1) Experience working with the public in a library, clerical, or comparable setting. 2) Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Applicants should 1) Have good oral and written communication skills and a customer service-oriented approach to assisting patrons. 2) Have general computer knowledge and experienced in using MS Office products including Word and Excel. 3) Reliable and able to work well independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting. 4) Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.

Preferred Qualifications: Some higher education experience preferred.

Minimum Educational Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree

Maximum Educational Qualifications: Master's Degree

Salary of Salary Range: This is a full time 12 month position with full time benefits. The salary for this position is $30,943 to $33,334 depending on experience and education. This position is rated as 240 points on the Administrative Salary scale. Applications will be accepted until this position is filled. This position will be available on August 1, 2024.
