The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at North Carolina State University invites applications for two tenure-track positions (12 month appointments) at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank in the field of immunology.
The successful applicant will perform research in immunology, have the opportunity to participate in teaching immunology courses to DVM and graduate students, and mentor undergraduate, graduate, and DVM students. The new faculty member will be expected to establish an independent research program in the field of immunology.
The research should focus on any aspect of the immune system, including but not limited to the following areas: immunity to infectious disease (bacterial, viral, fungal, or parasitic), mucosal immunity, influence of the microbiome on the immune system, applied immunology (vaccine development, tumor immunology, immunopathology). The research component of this position is expected to focus on elucidating the mechanisms of immune responses.
The successful candidates will have excellent opportunities to collaborate with faculty in the other CVM departments (Molecular Biomedical Sciences and Clinical Sciences), members of the North Carolina State University Comparative Medicine Institute, the North Carolina swine, poultry and ruminant industries if applicable, scientists and clinicians from the medical and graduate schools at Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the other institutions within the Research Triangle
Essential Job Duties
The selected individuals are expected to train and mentor graduate students. Opportunities are also available for mentoring veterinary students (primarily in summer research programs) and undergraduate students during the academic year and in the summer.
In addition to research, the successful applicant will teach immunology to DVM and graduate students, and mentor undergraduate, graduate, and DVM students.

Minimum Education and Experience
- A PhD is required. Candidates with both a DVM and PhD and an established research focus are preferred.
Other Required Qualifications
- Candidates are expected to build an independent, extramurally-funded research program. Candidates eligible for Associate Professor rank should demonstrate a strong publication record and success in obtaining extramural funding.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
