Position Description

Pay Grade: Manager 6

This position coordinates all instructional and academic activities within the department and supervises curriculum/course development. The Department Head also serves as the first-line manager of personnel, supplies, equipment, and facilities of the department.


Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)

  • Coordinates all of the instructional and academic activities within the assigned department(s) and subject area(s)

  • Responsible for keeping the Division Dean informed of the operation of the supervisory unit

  • Provides leadership and supervision of a managerial team in the Skilled Trades

  • Represents the department regarding strategic planning issues and assists in the achievement of division goals

  • Develops, maintains, and supervises long-range Institutional Effectiveness assessment plans that may include planning, developing, and reporting the program mission, goals, and program/student learning outcomes

  • Ensures programs and courses are effectively measuring program and student learning outcomes

Manages curriculum enrollment growth and ensures ongoing development of department program(s) >Supervises curriculum/course development and ensures currency of the curriculum

Supervises, evaluates, and coordinates departmental course offerings

Leads the development of full-time and adjunct faculty teaching schedules

Coordinates and participates in open houses and other student recruitment events

Maintains catalog, website, and brochure accuracy

Plans and conducts faculty department meetings

Participates in or develops faculty training and/or development

Supervises program reviews and/or accreditation

Reviews and recommends changes in curricula and prepares proposals for new curricula, based on the recommendations of the program directors and faculty

Manages advising processes

Participates in resolution of faculty and student issues

Develops and implements strategies to promote student persistence and completion of programs

Ensures currency of course syllabi

Supervises textbook selection, revision, and periodic reviews. Ensures book orders are placed in a timely manner

Promotes continuous improvement by completing an annual applied benchmark project on an individual or a group basis

Assists with data management for division

Assists program directors, dean, and registrar's office with scheduling issues and enrollment management

Promotes the implementation of student success and retention strategies, projects, and initiatives

Assists dean with allocation and monitoring of division resources

Assists dean with new and existing affiliation and articulation agreements

Completes annual applied benchmark project on an individual or group basis

 

Qualifications

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Able to maintain records accurately and be able to meet deadlines consistently

Able to maintain good organizational skills

Able to perform normal duties with minimum supervision

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in Engineering or Vocational/Technical Education or a related field to skilled trades

Two years post-secondary teaching experience in Engineering or Vocational/Technical Education or a related field to skilled trades

Three years supervisory or leadership experience in Engineering or Vocational/ Technical Education or a related field to skilled trades

Preferences:

Five years supervisory experience in a post-secondary academic setting

Five years teaching experience in a related field, preferably in a community college setting

Five years supervisory experience in a related field

Leadership training
