Summary of Position

The Assessment and Continuous Improvement Specialist is part of the Center for Institutional Effectiveness for Educational Excellence. The Center promotes and expands the use of research and data-informed strategic decisions in support of educational innovations and excellence. The Assessment and Continuous Improvement Specialist is responsible for coordinating and supporting assessment and continuous improvement in educational excellence and accreditation across all colleges. This requires providing expertise and coordination across a wide range of activities in supporting college-based and institutional continual improvement efforts. Activities can include but are not limited to programmatic assessment, educational outcomes measurements, impact assessment of student success interventions, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

This can be a remote position with the expectation of routine visits to campus as needed to facilitate the progress of the work and responsibilities.

The Assessment and Continuous Improvement Specialist must possess strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of assessment methodologies, the ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff and senior administrators, and a passion for enhancing educational excellence. The Assessment and Continuous Improvement Specialist should possess excellent organizational skills and must be able to prioritize and manage multiple short and long-term projects to meet deadlines. The Assessment and Continuous Improvement Specialist will perform other related duties as required and deemed appropriate in support of the Center of Institutional Effectiveness for Educational Excellence.

  • Master’s degree in social science, statistics, data analytics or related field.
  • Experience working in assessment in a higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in research design, data analysis, and communicating research results in appropriate formats.
  • High level of proficiency using Excel and statistical analysis software such as SPSS, Stata, R, or JMP.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing survey research data.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability communicate results of complex analyses in a manner understandable to lay audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new technological tools as they develop
  • Collaborative work style and demonstrated ability to work across departmental lines.
  • Extremely high attention to detail
  • Strong commitment to superior customer service.
  • Ability to work with confidential data in compliance with university data security and governance requirements.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using data visualization tools such as Tableau.
  • Training in and experience using basic and complex statistical methods including chi-squared, regression, and grouping methods such as cluster analysis or latent class analysis.

Duty/Responsibility

Academic and Co-curricular Assessment:
  • Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive assessment plans encompassing all types of educational experiences, including academic programs, high-impact practices, and student success initiatives.
  • Proactively share resources and build networks across the university to promote continuous improvement (e.g. tips and strategies, success stories, exemplars of curricular reform).
  • Collaborate with faculty and administrators to ensure that assessment activities align with institutional goals and support holistic student development.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of high-impact practices (such as internships, study abroad programs, research experiences) and student success initiatives (such as mentoring programs, academic support services) to enhance overall educational outcomes.
  • Support academic units in developing and utilizing assessment data to strengthen various educational experiences, improve student learning outcomes, and inform strategic decision-making for continuous improvement. Support may include individual consultations, collaborating with cross-functional teams and offering themed workshops.

Duty/Responsibility

Survey Administration, Data Analysis, and Reporting:
  • Develop and revise survey instruments for in-house surveys and manage third-party vendor surveys/data/information when relevant. Work with UNH stakeholders to achieve survey goals while ensuring sound survey methodology.
  • Clean, recode, and conduct analysis of survey data, including producing graphs and charts of results.
  • Write reports summarizing survey findings for campus and external audiences.

Supporting Strategic Projects and Planning:
  • Provide expertise and support for strategic projects related to educational assessment and improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with university leadership in strategic planning efforts, offering insights and data-driven recommendations to enhance educational effectiveness and student success.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams to align assessment strategies with broader institutional objectives and initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans aimed at advancing educational excellence and meeting accreditation standards.
