About the Role:
Take a leadership role in developing global strategies and managing day to day intellectual property efforts to support biologics, gene therapy preclinical and clinical development and commercial phase company programs._
Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):Provide legal advice to assigned business partners on a broad range of topics involving intellectual property
Identification of inventions, patent drafting, and prosecution relating to biologics/gene therapy or small molecule drugs
Conducting strategic IP due diligence, including analyzing the patent portfolios of the Company's competitors and potential collaborators
Identifying opportunities for expanding the Company's IP position and collaborating with members of various discovery, development and business groups within the Company
Working and communicating with collaborators and other external strategic partners in connection with developing a global IP strategy
Reviewing and negotiating license agreements and IP clauses in other agreements
Supporting preparation for ANDA, Biosimilars,and other patent litigation support; and
Managing the use of outside legal counsel globally
Other duties as assigned
PhD in genetics, immunology, biochemistry, virology, organic chemistry or related discipline preferred OR
Juris Doctorate (JD) and admission to practice in California preferred and 10+ years of combined significant experience at in-house and law firm on patent prosecution, and life-cycle management experience related to biologics/gene therapy
Registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office required and experience in the patent application preparation and prosecution in the U.S. and ex-U.S. jurisdictions covering biologics and/or gene therapy inventions is a prerequisite for the position
A broad range of patent-related legal expertise required, including in patent preparation, both U.S. and foreign prosecution, IP due diligence, and strategic counseling
Expertise in IP litigation and the aspects of regulatory affairs related to market exclusivity
Ability to independently oversee legal matters, manage the use of outside legal counsel and work collaboratively with other personnel at Neurocrine
Ability to set aggressive deadlines, handle multiple complex legal matters and see projects through to conclusion.
Recognized external expert in a strategic job function

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $217,000.00-$314,275.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 35% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
