Every person deserves the chance for a full, healthy life. An estimated 133 million adults live with diabetes or prediabetes in the United States. This creates a significant opportunity for the American Diabetes Association (ADA) to be a driving force in tackling one of the leading causes of death in the United States.

As advocates for health equity, the ADA leads efforts to advance access to quality diabetes care for all people. The ADA aims to drive positive health outcomes through leadership in implementing community-centric health interventions that address barriers to equitable health. The goal is to reduce and, one day, eliminate health inequities for all people living with diabetes.

The ADA seeks a Vice President of Health Equity and Community Engagement to be a provide thought leadership and advance the strategic vision anchored in the Health Equity Bill of Rights. The person in this role will report to the SVP, Health Equity, lead a team, and be relied on as a strategic partner, thought leader, convener, problem solver, and solutions finder who can work across spheres of influence to drive equitable approaches throughout the enterprise.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversight of initiatives within the Health Equity Now portfolio. Provide thought leadership to drive renewal discussions and extensions to scale existing community interventions.
  • Implement current and develop new strategies targeted at improving access to affordable care within communities where diabetes prevalence and associated risk factors are high.
  • Work with the Science and Health Care Team to ensure that diabetes research is inclusive and principal investigators are representative of the communities most impacted by diabetes prevalence and impacted by adverse social determinants of health.
  • Collaborate with the Metrics and Evaluations Team to establish data sources, metrics, and analytics to measure the effectiveness and outcomes of programs.
  • Review and align with local community driven assessments to help inform future programmatic solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Alliances Team to engage with corporate partners, health care professionals, community-based organizations, and civic leaders to establish support and resources for programs that drive sustainable and scalable outcomes.
  • Aid in establishing and cultivating relationships with social and civic membership organizations to create regional and national partnerships to amplify diabetes awareness and dissemination of education within local communities.
  • Create greater visibility for ADA's health equity efforts by attending in-person events, conferences, and meetings.
 


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in community engagement, civic roles, community-based organizations, public health, health promotion, public relations, fundraising, or related fields.
  • Solid experience managing teams.
  • Membership within a national civic and social organization (holding a leadership role is a plus).
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally, advise and influence key stakeholders to action.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with competing deadlines and demands.
  • Available for occasional travel to conferences and meetings (minimum 15% – 30%).

Compensation range: $148,000 - $160,000 DOE
