About Books Inc.’s Reading Bridge

Books Inc.’s Reading Bridge is a 501c3 nonprofit that grew out of Books Inc.’s bookfair program and began operating as its own entity in August 2023. Our mission is to provide children across the Bay Area with access to new, diverse, and inclusive books. Books Inc.’s Reading Bridge continues to benefit from active support and collaboration with Books Inc., with all staff working for the nonprofit formally employed by Books Inc. and contracted to Books Inc.’s Reading Bridge. We currently operate two models of school bookfairs: traditional school fundraising bookfairs as well as “Bridge Fairs” available to Title 1 schools.

About the ED Role

The Executive Director of Books Inc.’s Reading Bridge is responsible for managing, executing, and overseeing all operations, fundraising, programming, marketing, and Board management for the organization. This includes working with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and coordinating with Books Inc. warehouse and office staff. The position is based in San Leandro, California and can accommodate a partial work from home schedule.

Essential Functions

  • Be a committed ambassador of the mission of Books Inc.’s Reading Bridge.
  • Lead strategic planning processes and implement a strategic plan for the organization.
  • Ensure strong fiscal management of the organization including developing the annual budget, managing income and expenses, and setting financial benchmarks.
  • Seek opportunities to connect with communities served and develop partnerships with compatible organizations.

Operations and Management

  • Manage staff and volunteers including onboarding, training, and professional development.
  • Lead evaluations of all programs to ensure goals are met.
  • Ensure necessary financial, compliance, and government reporting is completely accurately in a timely manner.

Fundraising

  • Develop and implement a multi-faceted, innovative fundraising plan to achieve revenue targets.
  • Select and manage a donor database, manage all gift processing using best practices in fundraising administration.
  • Build relationships with key donors.

Board Management

  • Support the Board of Directors in their role as strategic advisors.
  • Communicate proactively, transparently, and effectively with the Board and provide the information necessary for the Board to make informed decisions.
  • Recruit Board members as needed that align with organizational goals and needs.

Marketing

  • Develop a comprehensive marketing and communications plan.
  • Develop and maintain a website for the organization.
  • Manage all marketing materials and social media platforms.

Ideal Qualifications

  • Passion for the mission of Books Inc.’s Reading Bridge.
  • Leader and visionary/strategic thinker who can inspire others by example and has proven success in a leadership role.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role at a nonprofit.
  • Previous experience in nonprofit fundraising.
  • Previous experience in the book industry preferred.

  • Are an experienced, passionate, and motivating manager and leader.
  • Have experience and knowledge of the basics of the book industry and children’s books in particular.
  • Have experience and knowledge of the basic aspects of the fundraising process, from planning and donor management to gift processing.
  • Have an understanding of nonprofit financial management.
  • Have experience providing strategic leadership.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $70,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

  • Non-Profit: 1 year (Preferred)

Ability to Relocate:
