Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
Applications are invited for a Senior Faculty Specialist position at the Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research (IBBR)/University of Maryland in Rockville, MD. This position will provide scientific program coordination for the IBBR, an institute partnership between the University of Maryland, College Park, the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Incumbent will be familiar with the major research programs of the Institute and work closely with the Directors to advance institutional goals. Incumbent will provide scientific program management for the NIST cooperative agreement, MPower Maryland, and other large grant funded initiatives, to include support of program planning and review, liaison with partners, review of grant financials, and scientific and grant reporting.

- Serves as point person in support of scientific program planning and coordination for the cross-institutional research community at IBBR, including the NIST cooperative agreement, MPower Maryland, and other large grant funded programs.
- Prepares periodic reports and creates presentations as requested. Utilizes evaluation methodology and implements tracking. Analyzes results and recommends appropriate action.
- Works with the scientific leadership in identifying opportunities for program growth and leverage, helps prepare white papers and supports submission of pilot and larger scale federal grant foundation proposals.
- Contributes to showcasing IBBR programs through the IBBR website, social media and scientific events.
IBBR is a joint research enterprise of the University of Maryland, College Park, the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
IBBR leverages state-of-art integrative methods for bioanalytical, biophysical and structural characterization of biomolecules: cryo-electron microscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, x-ray crystallography, small angle neutron and x-ray scattering and mass spectrometry.
IBBR researchers seek to advance therapeutic development, biomanufacturing, and state-of-the-art measurement technologies, to support accelerated delivery of safe and effective medicines to the public.
IBBR is a major initiative and supported in part by the University of Maryland Strategic Partnership: MPowering the State (MPower) , an initiative designed to achieve innovation and impact through collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in life sciences/engineering in areas related to structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, biomanufacturing and/or therapeutics or have at least 3 years full-time experience as a Faculty Specialist (or similar appointment at another institution), or its equivalent.
- Prior experience in a research or research administration environment.
- Experience building and managing stakeholder relationships.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills; strong technical writing and editing skills; strong organizational and convening skills.
- Ability to work productively and collaboratively with diverse scientific teams and leadership; ability to work to a deadline.

- Ph.D. degree in life sciences or engineering in areas related to structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, biomanufacturing and/or therapeutics.
- Three (3+) or more years project and/or program management experience on government-funded projects.
- Knowledge and experience in academic affairs.
- Possess sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy skills in working with constituencies internal and across the campuses of the different IBBR partners.
- Possess excellent customer service skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task as needed, delegating work to others as needed.
- Ability to routinely and independently navigate processes that address complex situations and problems.
