Research in basic and applied science and the engagement of technology are transferred to publish and private sector practitioners.
Essential Job Duties
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at NC State University invites applications for the position of Executive Director, North Carolina Crop Improvement Association, Inc. (NCCIA). The NCCIA is a non-profit educational and service organization recognized as the official agency for seed certification in North Carolina, and it is administered through the NC State Crop & Soil Sciences Department. The position reports directly to the NCCIA Board of Directors and the Crop & Soil Sciences Department Head.
The NCCIA Executive Director manages field inspections, seed inspections, and inspections of seed conditioning equipment for members of the association. The incumbent must be knowledgeable of the General Standards of the Certification program, the specific certification standards for each crop inspected by NCCIA, the protocols associated with the inspection process from application for certification to field inspection, and general agronomic practices. The incumbent will promote NCCIA services during meetings and travel throughout North Carolina, and at US and international meetings as needed.
The Executive Director will be responsible for: 1) supervision and assistance of the field inspection activities of the Association for all crops; 2) training and oversight of all full-time and part-time inspectors; and 3) development and maintenance of inspector guides, protocols, and variety descriptions including the Inspector’s Handbook. The incumbent will serve as NCCIA contact with private-company field representatives, work with producers, university personnel, and individuals from other agencies to develop and establish certification standards and/or specific protocols for present and new crops and/or areas, and represent NCCIA in commodity and other meetings. The incumbent will also travel extensively within the state of North Carolina and occasionally out of state.

Minimum Education and Experience
- Applicants must have earned an M.S. degree in Crop Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, or a closely related discipline or a B.S. degree with at least seven (7) years of related experience.
Other Required Qualifications
- A commitment to the seed industry, with seed technology and seed quality program experience.
- Must be able to lead an extensive and complex organization with responsibilities for certification of both vegetative and sexually propagated seed material.
- Must be skilled in Microsoft programs.
- Excellent communication skills and possess the ability to communicate effectively with university faculty and administrators, seed industry personnel, farmers, relevant commodity groups, and the public.
- The incumbent needs to be imaginative and resourceful in creating and maintaining a viable certification agency.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodations, work in variable climatic conditions between hot/cold or wet/dry, and be physically able to walk across fields containing crops

- Previous successful experience in personnel and business management.
