Job Summary

The Survey Research Center (SRC) at the Institute for Social Research (ISR) is a leader in international interdisciplinary social science research involving the collection and analysis of data, especially data from scientific sample surveys.  SRC conducts some of the most widely cited and influential studies in the world.

This position will work in the SRC Director's Office (SRC DO) with the Services, Training, Administration and Research Team (START) and work with the Data-science for Dynamic Decision-making Center (d3c). The d3c uses data and, in particular data from new randomized trial designs, to learn how best to design a treatment plan that matches the unique and changing needs of individuals struggling with a variety of health disorders such as anxiety, autism, serious mental illness, HIV, drug-use disorders or obesity. The center supports a large portfolio of sponsored research projects including a P50 Center for Excellence award from NIH with three research projects and two cores  Administrative Core and Dissemination and Training Core. 

This position will work with and under the mentorship of experienced research administrators throughout SRC and report to the Business Administration Manager in the SRC DO.

Responsibilities*

If you join the SRC, you will become an important part of a high functioning network of professional research administrators with broad responsibilities, expectations, and opportunities to support the center's overall research enterprise and its research faculty.

Responsibilities may include:

Pre-Award Activities:

Prepare and communicate proposal timelines and documents required to project teams and coordinating overall organization of submissions

Meet with faculty and stakeholders to determine overall proposal needs

Interpret overall sponsor guidelines for varying sponsors and conveying necessary specifications to faculty

Prepare proposal budgets and first stage budget justifications

Prepare and finalize typically required proposals documents such as facilities, biosketches, subaward packages

Rout proposals through eResearch proposal management system at the University of Michigan ensuring timely submissions

Prepare Just in Time documentation and other sponsored requests.

Post-Award Project Administration and Financial Management:

Reconcile assigned accounts (internal, sponsored) on a monthly basis for accuracy and allowability and to ensure compliance with SRC, U-M, and sponsor guidelines; investigate and resolve issues

Use experience in budget development, forecasting, analyses, reporting, and conveyance of recommendations to PIs, research teams, and colleagues

Help prepare monthly faculty effort spreadsheets (can maintain complex spreadsheets) to track effort commitments across time.

Interpret guidelines to ensure compliance with sponsor, ISR, and university guidelines

Prepare materials for annual sponsor project reports such as Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPR) and other reporting requirements

Other post-award responsibilities including: set-up new sponsored projects, request sub-accounts, prepare and submit award change requests, complete uniform guidance annual reports, complete budget allocations, initiate and manage subcontracts, maintain other support and complete the closeout of sponsored projects.

Compliance:

Help with the creation and management of Unfunded Agreements/Data Use Agreements (UFA/DUA) in eRPM.

Help draft administrative pieces for Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications for human subjects studies.

Attend research administration meetings and training to remain current on issues affecting proposal preparation, changes in UM policy and procedures, and to stay current on financial and administrative reporting; represent the program on committees and in meetings.

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor degree and 5 - 7 years of progressive grant and contract experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products, Google suites and communication applications such as Zoom.

Experience with pre- and/or post-award federal awards with a focus on infrastructure or center grants 

Experience with business tools such as, Travel and Expense reporting, and other administrative systems.

Work Locations

We offer flexibility for hybrid work within our overall Center guidelines. Flexible work guidelines for this SRC Director's Office position is 100% in-office for the training period. After completing the training period, the guidelines are 80% onsite, 4 days in the office and 20% remote, 1 day.
