Montgomery College, Maryland, has an immediate need for a full-time Controller in the Business Services department. The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. This is a non-bargaining, exempt, grade 35 position. Montgomery College promotes and creates a working and learning environment rooted in the basic tenets of fairness, diversity, and inclusiveness. Under general supervision, the Controller supports the Director of Finance with responsibility for the oversight of general ledger financial activity accounts receivable, accounts payable, and enterprise funds of the college including PIC MC, WDCE, PAC, CAC and Auxiliary Enterprises. The incumbent performs in-depth professional and specialized analysis of fiscal activities including: management of daily and periodic transactional activity for student accounts disbursements, and other routine transactions. The controller seeks continuous improvement and optimization of financial systems for execution of high transactional volume.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Manages and oversees the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams.
  • Develop and recommend strategies for optimizing the disbursement process to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Oversee the disbursement of funds including employee payments, vendor payments, student refunds, and other routine financial transactions. 
  • Monitor disbursement trends and recommend improvements to enhance financial controls. 
  • Supervise the maintenance of GASB regulation inventory records for leases and contracts. 
  • Monitor and oversee the general ledger activity and reporting for enterprise funds of the college including PIC MC, WDCE, PAC, CAC and Auxiliary Enterprises. 
  • Review and approve reconciliations.
  • Support fiscal monitoring and audits with general ledger reviews and financial statement preparation.
  • Serve as a liaison with the directors of each of the enterprise funds for accounting and processing issues.
  • Conduct contract cost analysis and provide recommendations.
  • Ensure all required tax forms are issued timely and in accordance with regulations.
  • Assist in annual budget process by coordinating cash forecasts, receivable aging reports, and identifying variances. 
  • Conduct revenue analysis and reporting of enterprise funds.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance the efficiency of receivables and optimize cash flow.
  • Support fiscal monitoring and audits with general ledger reviews and financial statement preparation
  • Serve as the liaison for requirements and implications on the Workday general ledger of the Banner SAAS implementation.
  • Manage and optimize transactional financial processes to support ensuring they align with organizational policies and all relevant regulations. 
  • Participate in strategic financial projects including upgrades or modifications of ERP/CRM systems. 
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to implement, upgrade, or customize financial systems.
  • Stay abreast of best practices, assist in the formulation of strategic planning of financial operations.
  • Ensure the timely application of changes in Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and State and Federal student aid regulations.
  • Conduct variance analysis and develop performance reports. 
  • Manage the periodic close process to ensure entries are timely, complete and accurate
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Five years of progressively responsible professional experience in accounting, particularly non-profit, governmental, and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements.
  • Experience supervising professional accounting staff.
  • The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in accounting, particularly non-profit, governmental, and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements in higher education.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Hiring Range: $95,791 to $131,713Initial salary placement is based on internal equity and relevant candidate experience.  Please include a complete resume/application including all relevant or related experience.
