SUMMARY
Teach Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) classes and participate in all related activities.
Provide leadership to the CNA instructional area.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Teach assigned Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) courses at the designated time and location(s), including theory and clinical skills.
Oversee and assist CNA students during State certification testing.
Follow departmental curriculum and the use of approved materials that are endorsed by the department.
Conduct in-service meetings for part time CNA instructors.
Maintain required class attendance and grades records. Turn in class records (roll sheets, grade sheets and other records as required by the specific program) by specified deadlines.
Distribute certificates to students and meet with individual students to make appropriate recommendations for subsequent courses.
Consult with Program Director about any unusual academic or discipline related issues in the classroom.
Advise part time instructors about any unusual academic or discipline related issues in the classroom.
Observe CNA classes, complete classroom observation forms, and recommend improvement.
Review CNA curriculum, update and revise as needed. Maintain current CNA clinical sites to support CNA program.
Maintain State compliance for the CNA program to include preparing for and attending CNA state audits.
Periodically meet with Program Director to review student evaluation forms and classroom observation forms.
Use departmental equipment responsibly.
Maintain current nursing skills and knowledge.
Ancillary Tasks:
Interview, counsel and provide orientation to potential students as required.
Review and approve student prerequisites for enrollment.
Monitor enrollment at designated sites.
Participate in CNA Advisory Committee Meetings.
Participate in program related surveys, research and staff development activities.
Be available to help the department with program marketing or public relations event.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
Must be a licensed RN or LVN in the state of Texas
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of one (1) year nursing experience in a long term care facility required.
Must have completed a course in teaching adults or have experience in teaching adults or supervising nurse aides.
Additional nursing experience and teaching experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of basic nursing theory and skills
Ability to demonstrate hands-on nursing techniques and skills
Ability to communicate with others from various backgrounds and experience levels
