Overview

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and Deerfield Management have created the Center for Protein Degradation (CPD) at DFCI. The CPD has created a next-generation protein degrader and molecular glue platform to advance novel therapeutic modalities. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a newly founded research center that is pushing the boundaries of targeted protein degradation research and accelerating the translation of basic science into clinical solutions.  Join our highly interactive team of scientists where we are creating new avenues of therapeutic intervention.

Our Culture

CPD believes...

  • learning is paramount, failure is necessary to succeed, and humility is an asset.
  • every individual should have the opportunity to provide and solicit feedback; asking for help is a strength.
  • in helping others succeed – we celebrate our successes together and recognize the contributions of the team.
  • in scientific excellence, challenging dogma, and asking “WHY?”
  • our research must push scientific boundaries and accelerate the discovery of transformational medicines.

The Center for Protein Degradation (CPD) is seeking a Scientist to join the Biology team. The individual will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to identify and characterize novel molecular glues and degraders.

Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.

Job Summary

The Center for Protein Degradation (CPD) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled SCIENTIST to join our biology team. The successful candidate will lead various projects focused on developing molecular glues and degrader molecules for cancer treatment. Utilizing cutting-edge molecular biology and functional genomics techniques, the candidate will identify and validate novel therapeutic modalities and elucidate the mechanisms of small molecule glues. Collaboration with internal researchers and external academic partners will be essential to design and develop innovative molecular biology screening methods. The candidate will provide strategic insights into research directions, contribute hands-on to the research, and regularly present progress to the team.

Responsibilities

  • Independently plan, manage, and execute experiments and biological projects.
  • Develop, implement, and conduct mechanistic studies for the discovery of molecular glue discovery.
  • Investigate novel targets and modalities using molecular biology and functional genomics techniques.
  • Employ gene editing techniques in physiologically relevant cell models to identify hits and conduct high throughput screens as needed.
  • Provide functional genomics and molecular biology support across CPD projects.
  • Collaborate with scientific groups within the Center (e.g., chemistry, biochemistry, computational biology) to select appropriate experiments for molecular glue discovery.
  • Collect and analyze experimental data, and determine next steps based on outcomes.
  • Train research technicians and other scientific staff in methods and techniques.
  • Prepare presentations and present project status and outcomes at internal and external meetings.
  • Prepare papers and publications as necessary.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records of experimental work, including methods and results.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD degree in molecular/cellular biology, cancer biology or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in gene editing techniques to evaluate functional phenotypes and elucidate mechanistic biology.
  • Familiarity with proteomics, proliferation/viability assays, cell sorting and flow cytometry.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven scientific drive, demonstrated by a strong track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and GraphPad Prism software.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills with strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing multi-faceted projects.
  • Experience supervising junior staff.
